We were supposed to fly out to WonderCon two years ago, but things didn't work out.  Now we live here so we had no excuse not to check out the convention, and we're glad we did!  WonderCon had all of the best parts of other cons - a diverse set of people, tons of cosplay, representation from every side of geekdom, an incredible vendor hall and artists' alley, and a beautiful location - without the typical downsides of other cons - it was never too crowded, security was a breeze (and super nice!), and we, at least, didn't run into any creeps.  The only downside is parking; it fills up fast and then you have to overflow to Angels Stadium which is 2 miles away and take a shuttle.  It's not terrible, but it's worth noting.

On the costume side of things it didn't go entirely to plan.  We were hoping to debut two new Overwatch costumes at this convention: Scion Hanzo and Sugar Plum Mercy.  With about a week left we made the call to delay Scion Hanzo for the future because the sewing wasn't going to get done in time.  Sugar Plum Mercy still debuted, but there were a few snafus - the wig was a Plan B because the first wig was too small, the ear decorations wouldn't work with the new wig so were left off, and finally since we were so crunched we didn't have a chance to test the wings before the convention.  They didn't work.  They ended up being too heavy and they sagged way too much.  We ended up checking the wings at the bag check for the day and Fenix went without.  That said, the rest of the costume worked well and Fenix was a shiny, magical elven creature.

We met lots of incredible people, bought some art and apparel, and had an overall great time.  We will almost certainly be back again next year!
